Felicia's Notebook, Taking Back Friday

Machine Knitting with Hand-Dyed Yarns

Machine knitting the Navelli sweater with hand-dyed SweetGeorgia yarns

Welcome to another episode of Felicia figuring out knitting machines! In today’s Taking Back Friday vlog, I’m back at the knitting machine where I’ve been doing quite a lot of knitting in preparation for Knit City, a big yarn festival that happens every year in Vancouver. If you plan to be at Knit City, come by and say hello! We will be debuting our brand new collection of colours that will be coming out this fall and I am working on samples to show some of these colours we are releasing.

I’m knitting Caitlin Hunter’s Navelli tee and combining hand knitting and machine knitting in the same garment, using the Silver Reed YC6 colour changer as a way to alternate skeins of hand-dyed knitting yarn to create a really smooth and evenly blended appearance throughout the garment.

Let me know in the comments if you use a knitting machine, or if you have ever knit a project half with a knitting machine and half with hand knitting. I would love to hear from you in the comments below, and I would also love to see you at Knit City next week! Come visit us at our booth and lounge area!

IN THIS EPISODE

  • what I mention in today’s episode: I’m wearing the Navelli tee designed by Caitlin Hunter. I knit mine out of SweetGeorgia Tough Love Sock in a colourway close to Deep Cove plus Arbutus.
  • what I mention in today’s episode: Here is information and links to items talked about in the vlog…
    • I’m using a used Silver Reed SK280 flat-bed knitting machine with a used Silver Reed YC6 colour changer (both of which I found locally on Facebook Marketplace).
    • On the machine, we are knitting the Navelli with SweetGeorgia Tough Love Sock in Black Raspberry and Amber Ale — both are new colourways that are launching September 23, 2022 at our online shop.
